On 19th February 2026, Epping Forest District Council set the Council Tax rates for 2026/2027. Below is an extract from their press release:
Delivering value for money for residents
Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) receives less than 8% of the total bill. The rest goes to Essex County Council, Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue Services and our local town and parish councils. This means that EFDC’s portion of the Council Tax bill for an average Band D property is just £177 for the year, equivalent to less than 50p a day for all our services. This is an increase of 2.98% on the previous year.
Where your money goes
Key facts about this budget
- EFDC receives less than 8% of the total bill it collects
- That’s £177 a year or less than 50p a day for all our services
- The lowest district council share of Council Tax in Essex
- Our core spending is funded by 49% Council Tax, 28% locally retained business rates, and 23% government grants
- EFDC received £1.5 million government funding to manage packaging waste, known as extended producer responsibility, this was higher than expected and a positive factor in the budget
- Most of our income we generate ourselves. This includes rent from business premises, fees and charges, government grants, and income from our arms-length companies, Qualis and TVS
- EFDC holds healthy reserves but capital funding cannot be used to close the budget gap. Capital funding is for long-term investments in physical assets, while revenue funding covers our day-to-day operational costs
